Linebacker Options for The Steelers

by James Layton

The Steeles have been hit hard in the past few weeks with injuries to the linebacker group. They have especially become thin at the inside linebacker position, with Cole Holcomb going down with a season ending knee injury during the Titans Game. And now with Kwon Alexander suffering a torn Achilles tendon against the Packers Sunday.

Veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts has been off and on the injury report all season. So, it would definitely be a good idea to bring in a few linebackers to help add some needed depth. As of right now they only have two inside linebackers on the active roster in Elandon Roberts and Mark Robinson.

They also have three on the practice squad that have played some meaningful snaps in an NFL defensive front. On the practice squad is Tariq Carpenter, Kyron Johnson, and Mykal Walker.

If they are going to promote anyone from the practice squad to the active roster, Walker would make the most sense. Walker has the most experience of anyone on the practice squad at the position. He also adds much needed depth for special teams.

Let’s get into the free agent options and the practice squad options.

Free Agents

  • Anthony Barr
  • Ulysees Gilbert
  • Nick Kwiatkoski
  • Jayon Brown
  • Reggie Ragland
  • Dakota Allen
  • Damien Wilson
  • Bumper Poole
  • Tanner Vallejo

Practice Squad Options

  • Alexander “AJ” Johnson, Dolphins
  • Buddy Johnson, Cowboys
  • Calvin Munson, Patriots
  • Clay Johnson, Bengals
  • Blake Lynch, Chargers
  • Blake Martinez, Panthers

Steelers Players to Watch: Week 10 vs. Packers

by James Layton

The Steelers are coming into this second in the division, with a record of 5-3. Somehow, they keep finding a way to win and the look to continue to do that this week against a new look Packers team.

The Packers are coming into Pittsburgh after beating a bad Rams team. Jordan Love and the offense are going to be a test for this defense that has trouble stopping teams that should be an easy game.

Kenny Pickett and this offense needs to control the time of possession in this game, the defense doesn’t need to be on the field more than the offense. One way to do this is to get the run game going right away, they need to get Najee and Jaylen Warren going early.

Let’s get into the players to watch.
