Here are the Steelers Free Agents. The Steelers have a few big name players who’s contracts are up, including Mike Hilton, Matt Feiler, and Zach Banner.
My thoughts on the Steelers 2019 campaign. Where do I start. Most likely with their strength. The defense. With their defense the strength was with the pass rush of T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree. They did not need to worry about the secondary as they did in pass years with the additions of Steven Nelson (CB) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (S).
Turning to the offense with the quarterback carousel from week-to-week. The inexperience of the skilled position on offense namely quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs with the injuries to the tight end position. With the run game you did not know if it would be power run from the I-formation, power strong, strong formation, or your finesse run game out of the shotgun, pistol and wildcat. Turning to the offensive line it showed its strong suit in the interior but the both Tackle spots seemed to be a weakness from week-to-week. This is my first mock draft for the Steelers this year.
Round 1 Pick 49 Jacob Eason, QB Washington
Round 3 Pick 102 Van Jefferson, WR Florida
Round 4 Pick 121 Kenny Willekes, EDGE Michigan State
Round 4 Pick 132 Trey Adams, OT Washington
Round 6 Pick 198 Adrian Killins, RB Central Florida
The Steelers have at this point $1,430,975 in Cap Space. This is a big offseason for Kevin Colbert to create enough cap space to keep Bud Dupree, and to be able to make some moves in Free Agency.
Here are some possible Cap Casualties:
Ramon Foster, G Cap Savings: $4,000,000 Dead Money: $1,575,000
Vance McDonald, TE Cap Savings: $5,672,000 Dead Money: $1,455,000
Anthony Chickillo, LB Cap Savings:$5,000,000 Dead Money: $1,097,000
Daniel McCullers, DT Cap Savings: $1,500,000 Dead Money: $125,000
Total Cap Savings: $16,172,000 Dead Money: $4,252,000
These are a few players I thought could be on the bubble during their Training Camp and the Preseason.
The biggest one that this is a big Training Camp for is 4th year Cornerback Artie Burns, Burns had a good Rookie season and then a big drop off last season. It seemed he had a hard time getting over a couple of penalties early in the season.
Here are the players that could be on the Bubble:
Eli Rogers, WR Cap Savings: $1,000,000 Dead Money: $500,000
Jerald Hawkins, OT Cap Savings: $720,000 Dead Money: $132,622
Tyler Matakevich, LB Cap Savings: $720,000 Dead Money: $15,763
Jordan Dangerfield, S Cap Savings: $645,ooo Dead Money: $0
Artie Burns, CB Cap Savings: $1,757,862 Dead Money: $1,293,815
Jordan Berry, P Cap Savings: $775,000 Dead Money: $750,000
This is the way I think the team will look after training camp. I really liked the players they got in the draft. I think many will make an impact on the 2019 Steelers season.
